Create Your Own Path

What do you want from life? It’s a simple yet profound question. Champions of life know what they want and have a desire great enough to become the person they choose to be!

Most people just drift through life letting other people; such as a family member, their boss, or circumstances like where they live, their job or the economy determine their life’s outcome. Extraordinary outcomes require creative vision, planning and actions congruent with one’s vision.

Create your own path: the impulse to live for a vision greater than one’s self is part of your psychic personality. Dr. Carl Jung wrote:

“There is and can be no self-knowledge based on theoretical assumptions, for the object of self-knowledge is an individual – a relative exception and an irregular phenomenon. Hence it is not the universal and regular that characterize the individual, but rather the unique. He is not to be understood as a recurrent unit but as something unique and singular which in the last analysis can neither be known or compared with anything else.”  Dr. Carl G. Jung, The Undiscovered Self, page 8, Signet, copyright 1957, 2001.

Discovering one’s true self is a goal that is not just important from the standpoint of striving for contentment or joy but is a worthy goal to allow one’s self to create a life vision and mission, to live life to its fullest and leave a legacy.

As soon as we are born our journey of self-discovery begins. First as are part of a family we are taught and disciplined by our parents. We are influenced by all our relatives in our extended family. Next we are influenced by the boys and girls who are our playmates. We mimic them wanting to fit in. Next we go to school and we are told where to sit, what to write, what to think and to recite what we are taught-we want to please our school teachers. Then we are influenced by our neighborhood and its culture.

We graduate from high school and many of us go off to college and we are again taught what to think, to do things in a certain order, many professors use their power to persuade to mold their pupils to their point of view.

Is this who we really are? Isn’t it time you became your own Chief Executive Officer taking control of your agenda? Thinking for yourself instead of being put into a box and doing what others expect you to do? Life is an adventure and when you go deep within your own mind and follow your heart then with a little courage act, you live the dream.

What I learned about the process of creation in engineering and construction can be directly applied to the life of any individual:

  • Create a goal an objective to be achieved.
  • Discover a body of knowledge, skill and resources necessary for its attainment.
  • Plan the sequence of events necessary to achieve the goal.
  • Start the work necessary for its attainment.
  • Allow your imagination and intuition to find answers to problems and setbacks.
  • Find mentors to guide and teach you so that you will learn how to succeed.
  • Allow yourself to succeed incrementally regardless of temporary failure.
  • Start with a goal in mind and work through everything until you succeed.

Fear of the unknown or a distorted self-image can and does prevent many from starting the process of creation, this is unfortunate as these self-imposed limitations are false and can be overcome by using your conscious mind to program and re-train the subconscious using visualization and commanding your subconscious during meditation or self-hypnosis.

Are you waiting for someone else’s approval to succeed?

You become what you think about.

Abraham Maslow wrote in The Further Reaches of Human Nature:

“Think of life as a process of choices, one right after another. At each point there is a progression choice and a regression choice. There may be movement towards defense, towards safety, towards being afraid; but over on the other side, there is a growth choice. To make the growth choice instead of the fear choice a dozen times a day is to move a dozen times a day towards self-actualization.”

Action steps:

1. Create a Vision for yourself.

2. Write a plan of action, prioritize.

3. Live the plan as if you have become your vision.

4. Find mentors

5. Do it now!

“It’s the same process that I used in body building, what you do is create a vision of who you want to be and then live into that picture as if it were already true.”

–Arnold Schwarzenegger

  6. The storehouse will show itself by filling your life with negativity and lack of results which will further compound your negative thinking…Now generating positive actions in your life is not as simple as just using your brain power and thinking positive thoughts although they are the foundation of your success. Tonight instead of setting your alarm clock for your normal time for awakening before going to sleep using positive affirmations tell yourself what time you want to arise concentrate on that time and your subconscious mind will take over you will amaze yourself how close to that time you will awaken without your alarm clock going off…Now if you are successful with this little exercise by using your brain power can you see how you can use the same process to change your life.

Many also described being greeted in the “next world” by a man-in-white or being-of-light (similar to the findings of Dr. Raymond Moody), and were offered the fruit of forgetfulness before rebirth. Eating this fruit would erase the memories of the previous life and; several other subjects further claimed that their past-life recollections were preserved only because they had managed to evade the tempting offer.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
