Your Journey During 2017

As we continue from last week, January 2017 is now 2/3 completed. What have you accomplished so far? Are your goals written down and on schedule?

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” –Andy Warhol

A. H. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs:

Self-Actualization: Morality, creativity, spontinaity, problem solving, lack of prejudice, acceptance of facts.

Esteem: Self-esteem, confidence, achievement, respect of others, respect by others.

Belongingness: Friendship, family, sexual intimacy.

Security: Security of body, employment, resources, morality, the family, health, property.

Survival: Breathing, water, food, clothing, shelter and homeostasis.

How do you score on Maslow’s hierarchy? Are you still clinging to survival looking for security in others rather than yourself?

Learning to outperform 98% of our fellows is a journey that first begins in your mind. Everything is created twice, first in your mind and second in reality. Goals are created in reality by individuals through their actions, as they act out their beliefs and values about themselves and how the outer world they see reflects those values. The inner world of our mind translates to the outer world that we see and act upon. Is the glass half empty or half full? Actually the glass is refillable.

Action steps:
1. Create a Vision for yourself.
2. Write a plan of action, prioritize.
3. Live the plan as if you have become your vision.
4. Find mentors
5. Do it now!

2017 Is Now!

What do you want?

Now it is 2017, today’s date is not a random date far off in the future, it is now. You are here and your actions are in the now! So for a better tomorrow, what you do “in the now” at the present moment will have a creative impact on what will determine your future. Create the life you want!

You have more control over your own life than any other person or circumstance. It is our response to other people and events that affect us most.

Design the Life you really want. Authors Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy’s book: Living Forward an excellent primer to assist you in becoming aware of whether you are just drifting through life or are actively designing and creating the life of your dreams.

Their book is organized to help you become self-aware and to set goals. Excerpt: “1. Become aware of your current location. We want to help you see where you are in relation to where you want to be…2. Decide where you want to go. The essence of Life Planning is envisioning a better future. We want to empower you to dream…3. Start working toward your destination. Once you have acknowledged where you are and decided where you want to go, you can begin moving toward your goals…” (page 33.)

“In the absence of clearly defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily trivia until ultimately we become enslaved by it.” –Robert Heinlein (Novelist)

Action steps:

  • Do a self-assessment, what is your present location?
  • Decide where you want to go.
  • Make a Plan; use discipline every day to create your future.

In The Now!

Metaphysics

“It’s not what you are that holds you back; it’s what you think that you are not.” –Denis Waitley

Lasting happiness and peace springs from the understanding that you are free to be who you already are. Your life is a miracle – what holds us back are false beliefs, i.e., of the labels attached to us, our wants and fears define us. I believe that there is only one power, one presence in the universe which is omnipresent. An omnipresent energy, many refer to this presence as God.

Our source for life and everything in it is of this God presence. By the realization that our life is a miracle and that we are a perfect being – metaphysically – we can release and dissipate our fears, obsessions and conditional happiness and life freely – In The Now!

“When you are alone and the world is still,
Your own small voice speaks loud and clear,
You are yourself and truly be,
Will you listen or turn away?”
–Zak Klemmer

Feelings are just feelings, they are not facts, they are not reality, and they do not define who you are. Are you feeling stressed? Do you feel encumbered by your past? Go to a quiet room where you will be undisturbed for a few minutes. Sit in a comfortable chair, support your back, get comfortable and relax.

Let go of the need to possess or control the situation. Your burden is not who you are, can you let it go? Would you let it go? Visualize yourself letting go, being free. Visualize yourself free and in the now. Allow yourself to be free in the now.

Life is like a river; no man can step into the same river twice. This is because a river is about flow and it is not the same water that it was last year, yesterday, today and it will be different tomorrow. Release your burden and let it melt away, explode it into bits, it no longer as a place in your life. Live in the now!

Live in the now, allow the real you to live and breathe. Breathe in and out; relax knowing that the vital life force that animates us is present in your mind and body. Live today, live proactively as a self-actualizing individual. You are in possession of everything you need as the real you. Think, dream, plan and act courageously and positively on your success journey, you are on the River of Life in the now.

Living your life’s mission is creating your vision every day! It is a “work in progress” so be patient with yourself and work your plan allowing for setbacks and unexpected events, keeping your sights on the big picture of your mission and vision.

The motion picture was invented by Thomas Edison. It is simply thousands of still frames running in motion before a lens creating the illusion of movement. A single day in our life is similar to that one frame of a motion picture, the main difference is that our life is real – the single day is but one day on the river of life; so by looking ahead to the future and working at your mission you succeed through living that one single frame that represents “Living in the Now”.

Are you fully committed? The difference between success and failure is that successful men and women realize that temporary setbacks and failures are just temporary road blocks on success road. By keeping focused on their long-term goals they live successfully by working around these obstacles. Even failure is not permanent, unless you quit. To succeed you must re-invent yourself and find a way to succeed at your long-term goals.

Failures squander time forgetting that the actions that we take each and every day can become a bountiful harvest when we create a positive vision. The visionaries of life succeed by acting! Taking positive action on our vision through our mission we live our life with a purpose that will carry us to our destiny.

Action steps:
1. Create a Vision for yourself.
2. Write a plan of action, prioritize.
3. Live the plan as if you have become your vision.
4. Find mentors

Happy New Year 2012

Happy New Year 2012! Your New Life for the New Year!

Replace New Year’s Resolutions with Self-realization: Expanding your self-consciousness to understand that you have the power to choose your self-image, thoughts, plan and execute actions to achieve your goals and live successfully.

When you see yourself outside of your present circumstances from the perspective of objective reality you begin the take control over your thoughts and life. This is liberating, to break down past self-limiting and false beliefs about yourself and the world replacing it with new goals, habits and objectives.

Successful People Set Goals:

Discovering creativity: Learning how to use the creative process to reinvent you into the successful and self-actualizing man or woman that grows and changes with the upward progress of his/her success.

Design is a process whether it is the product itself, an assembly plant for Boeing or Ford, a logistical transportation system for FedEx or UPS, the architect’s plan of your dream home or the personal success plan for your life.

Personal Action Plan:

Implementation: Create a vision and mission for your life, the purpose of this blog is to discover together the success principles that ultra-successful men and women have used to become leaders in their chosen fields of endeavor.

Stephen R. Covey defined habit:
_________________________________________________________
“For our purposes, we will define a habit as the intersection of knowledge, skill and desire.

Knowledge is the theoretical paradigm, the what to do and the why. Skill is the how to do. And desire is the motivation, the want to do. In order to make something a habit in our lives, we have to have all three.” The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People

By creating a personal life vision and mission, reflecting on the meaning of “success” and learning to use introspection to further develop your skills, you will realize greater understanding of both the creative and leadership process this will assist you in attaining the next level of personal achievement.” –Stephen R. Covey
_________________________________________________________

“Most people just drift through life letting other people; i.e., family members, their boss; circumstance like where they live, their job and the economy determine their life’s outcome. Extraordinary outcomes require creative vision, planning and actions congruent with one’s vision.” –Zak Klemmer

“All achievement, all earned riches, have their beginning in an idea.” –Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich

Action steps:
1. Create a Vision for yourself.
2. Write a plan of action, prioritize.
3. Live the plan as if you have become your vision.
4. Find mentors
5. Do it now!

Why Scouting is Important

One of the most effective and successful ways to motivate, teach and develop your teen-agers into self-actualizing young adults is through both the Boy and Girl Scout programs. One of our family’s “kitchen table” advisors is Tucson attorney Peter Schmerl. I first met Peter nearly twenty years-ago doing political volunteering; he was a member of Boy Scout Troop 211 as a teen in Tucson and earned his Eagle in scouting.

Scouting teaches what schools and churches are not designed or equipped to accomplish, namely a mentoring and leadership training environment. My son Bradford was a member of Troop 211 and became a Star Scout in the scouting program there. Troop 211 is a boy run organization; the boys teach and lead each other with the adult leaders standing by mentoring, supervising and giving financial support. Scouts learn by doing and develop their thinking skills working on projects as well as their leadership skills. Learning to take decisions, find life avocations and build relationships that may last a lifetime. Have you developed a life mission and vision? The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts have.

Girl Scouts of America Mission

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.  More Than 90 Years: Founder Juliette Gordon Low organized the first Girl Scout Troop on *March 12, 1912*, in Savannah, Georgia.  An American Institution: Girl Scouts of the USA was chartered by the U.S. Congress on *March 16, 1950*.

Still Growing Strong: Today, there are *3.2 million Girl Scouts*—2.3 million girl members and 880,000 adult members working primarily as volunteers.

Empowering Girls:

In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships, girls grow courageous and strong. Girl Scouting helps girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasingunderstanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actionsand provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute tothe improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others.

The Girl Scout Promise:

On my honor, I will try:

To Serve God and my country,

To help people at all times,

And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

The Girl Scout Law:

I will do my best to be

honest and fair,

friendly and helpful,

considerate and caring,

courageous and strong, and

responsible for what I say and do,

and to:

respect myself and others,

respect authority,

use resources wisely,

make the world a better place, and

be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Many are attracted to scouting for outdoor recreation, to learn about the wilderness by camping and exploring nature.  What you may have over looked is the exposure to a life-long system of learning practical skills, leadership and a greater appreciation of our environment.

Action steps:

1. Create a Vision for yourself.

2. Write a plan of action, prioritize.

3. Live the plan as if you have become your vision.

4. Find mentors

5. Do it now!

What a Champion Does

We always feel great after a win, whether it is a promotion at work, on the playing field of sport, having your proposal accepted.

What do you do after a negative event?

Your business relationship fails,
Your spouse want’s a divorce,
A family member dies,
Your job is terminated?

And if you are Rafael Nadal you are beaten at  Wimbledon and lose your number 1 ranking.

Wimbledon Tennis

Novak Djokovic Australian Men’s Tennis Champion
VS.
Rafael Nadal French Men’s Tennis Champion
Meet at Wimbledon in the Men’s Final

Mr. Djokovic’s stats:
Career singles titles: 25
Current 52 week rank for singles: 2
Current 52 week rank for doubles: 244
Career matches won: 365
Career matches lost: 106
YTD matches won: 41
YTD matches lost: 1
Mr. Nadal’s stats:
Career singles titles: 46
Current 52 week rank for singles: 1
Current 52 week rank of doubles: 127
Career matches won: 517
Career matches lost: 108
YTD matches won: 45
YTD matches lost: 7

Djokovic defeats Nadal 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3
My take after the match:
It was really entertaining! I was looking forward to a 5 set match being a Nadal fan. Novak Djokovic had the energy and all the momentum.

So does that make Nadal a total looser?
“It’s not the event itself that does us in, it’s how we perceive it.”
–Dr. Karl Menninger, psychiatrist and author

Of course not, a true champion realizes that losing a match is just part of the game. The Champion will continue to work on his/her inner and outer games. The goal is to stay at the top of their form and attack when they see an advantage.

Action steps:
1. Create a Vision for yourself.
2. Write a plan of action, prioritize.
3. Live the plan as if you have become your vision.
4. Find mentors
5. Do it now!

Are You On Track?

Personal Accountability

Learning to outperform 98% of our fellows is a skill set which first begins in your mind. Everything is first created in the human mind then translates into the life of individuals as they act out their beliefs and values about themselves and how they see the world we all live in. The inner world of our mind translates to the outer world that we see and act upon. Is the glass half full or half empty?

Everything begins with an idea- this is the most important message that I can impart. Become an Optimist. The process of optimism is similar to that of pessimism only the fruits- the end result is opposite. Become an optimist in your thinking so when you awake each day you are glad to be alive, looking for opportunities – when acted upon will over time result in a life of success.

“Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
–Albert Einstein

How do we hold ourselves accountable?

Becoming personally responsible for our behavior is necessary for success. Self-actualizing individuals are seamless as they act on their goals and to-do lists daily. People who are accustomed to working for others may need a transition as they become self-employed in their new enterprise. Entrepreneurs must find a way to become effective and accountability is crucial for sustained success, a mentor or Master Mind Alliance can play an important part but it still comes down to you. It’s your life and your success that we are focusing on here.

One tool that I use in my life is a web based program: Goals on Track:

Create Your Own Path

What do you want from life? It’s a simple yet profound question. Champions of life know what they want and have a desire great enough to become the person they choose to be!

Most people just drift through life letting other people; such as a family member, their boss, or circumstances like where they live, their job or the economy determine their life’s outcome. Extraordinary outcomes require creative vision, planning and actions congruent with one’s vision.

Create your own path: the impulse to live for a vision greater than one’s self is part of your psychic personality. Dr. Carl Jung wrote:

“There is and can be no self-knowledge based on theoretical assumptions, for the object of self-knowledge is an individual – a relative exception and an irregular phenomenon. Hence it is not the universal and regular that characterize the individual, but rather the unique. He is not to be understood as a recurrent unit but as something unique and singular which in the last analysis can neither be known or compared with anything else.”  Dr. Carl G. Jung, The Undiscovered Self, page 8, Signet, copyright 1957, 2001.

Discovering one’s true self is a goal that is not just important from the standpoint of striving for contentment or joy but is a worthy goal to allow one’s self to create a life vision and mission, to live life to its fullest and leave a legacy.

As soon as we are born our journey of self-discovery begins. First as are part of a family we are taught and disciplined by our parents. We are influenced by all our relatives in our extended family. Next we are influenced by the boys and girls who are our playmates. We mimic them wanting to fit in. Next we go to school and we are told where to sit, what to write, what to think and to recite what we are taught-we want to please our school teachers. Then we are influenced by our neighborhood and its culture.

We graduate from high school and many of us go off to college and we are again taught what to think, to do things in a certain order, many professors use their power to persuade to mold their pupils to their point of view.

Is this who we really are? Isn’t it time you became your own Chief Executive Officer taking control of your agenda? Thinking for yourself instead of being put into a box and doing what others expect you to do? Life is an adventure and when you go deep within your own mind and follow your heart then with a little courage act, you live the dream.

What I learned about the process of creation in engineering and construction can be directly applied to the life of any individual:

  • Create a goal an objective to be achieved.
  • Discover a body of knowledge, skill and resources necessary for its attainment.
  • Plan the sequence of events necessary to achieve the goal.
  • Start the work necessary for its attainment.
  • Allow your imagination and intuition to find answers to problems and setbacks.
  • Find mentors to guide and teach you so that you will learn how to succeed.
  • Allow yourself to succeed incrementally regardless of temporary failure.
  • Start with a goal in mind and work through everything until you succeed.

Fear of the unknown or a distorted self-image can and does prevent many from starting the process of creation, this is unfortunate as these self-imposed limitations are false and can be overcome by using your conscious mind to program and re-train the subconscious using visualization and commanding your subconscious during meditation or self-hypnosis.

Are you waiting for someone else’s approval to succeed?

You become what you think about.

Abraham Maslow wrote in The Further Reaches of Human Nature:

“Think of life as a process of choices, one right after another. At each point there is a progression choice and a regression choice. There may be movement towards defense, towards safety, towards being afraid; but over on the other side, there is a growth choice. To make the growth choice instead of the fear choice a dozen times a day is to move a dozen times a day towards self-actualization.”

Action steps:

1. Create a Vision for yourself.

2. Write a plan of action, prioritize.

3. Live the plan as if you have become your vision.

4. Find mentors

5. Do it now!

“It’s the same process that I used in body building, what you do is create a vision of who you want to be and then live into that picture as if it were already true.”

–Arnold Schwarzenegger
